On 1 July 2002 I will be starting work as Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). I expect to be traveling to some interesting places in this new role, so that has prompted me to start this blog. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do since arriving in Malaysia in 1997 because living in Asia involves some interesting experiences. However, in my previous role with ASTRO, I’ve never had the time to write about my experiences as an expat in Asia, because the work has been intense (sometimes exhausting) and all I’ve wanted to do when I have had free time is sleep.
Hopefully the new job won’t be as stressful and I will have time to write about some of the places I will be visiting during the course of my work around the Asia-Pacific region.
This blog starts prior to July because I took three days’ leave from my ASTRO employment in June to travel to Tokyo for a pre-employment briefing with the President of the ABU, Mr Katsuji Ebisawa, who is also President of NHK, Japan.
