I love to eat lanzones. We are enjoying a long lanzones season here in the Philippines this year. I used to enjoy eating them in Malaysia (where they are known as langsat) and Thailand (where they are known as longkong) as well. But the downside is that you end up with your fingers covered in a sticky latex-like sap that’s difficult to remove.
Over the years I’ve tried all sorts of soaps, detergents and rubbing alcohol to remove the sap, but to no avail. Using a computer or smartphone after eating lanzones was a frustrating experience because it was impossible to stop the sap from making the keyboard or screen sticky as well.
But then this afternoon I discovered how to remove it, almost by accident. I had just finished eating a bunch of lanzones over the kitchen sink when I noticed a bottle of Cif kitchen & bathroom cleaning cream on the shelf. I gave that a try and lo and behold it worked! It removed the sap immediately and after rinsing off with water under the tap, I had clean fingers. No more sticky keyboards!
